Eartec releases new Pro16 headset for sportfish crews
If you have been waiting to upgrade your headset communications on your sportfish boat or considering buying a new set, now is a good time. Eartec has just released an all new design for up to 16 users with no hub and extended range. Before you ask… No they are not waterproof. But, with new ear piece design that won’t degrade as easily and stainless steel components, the boom will not rust as quickly or easily as previous models. There are a handful of other upgrades as well if you read on.
They are a similar setup to the “master” system with no hub needed. The per headset cost is more but the extended battery life among other things make them a worthwhile upgrade.

They are just amazing.
Auto pair feature gets everyone connected in seconds which is very useful in rush situations.
Volume is loud enough and clear in most situations (not for the engine room with the engines running though). Wind is blocked effectively making communications very clear when we are fishing.
I would estimate the distance of clear communications at a quarter mile. Main headset was in the enclosed bridge, crew was at the bow and stern of the boat (64') and I was on the tender close to a quarter mile away. We could all communicate clearly. Farther than that we could still communicate but there were short break ups in the signal.
They are very comfortable, we used them for the duration of a couple of 5 hrs trips and 9 hrs fishing days and no one took them off, so they are comfy (previous version that we had were unbearable after 1 hr). Battery life went beyond the advertised 10 hrs which is awesome and charging system is very practical and effective in charging quickly.
We are very pleased and impressed with the system!
