    The Walker’s Cay Invitational happened last week and the Marlin fishing was as good as it gets in the Bahamas. Here’s a recap of last weeks tournament from our good friend and customer Captain Jon Mcintyre aka Jonny Mac who fished on the Old No. 7…

    The Walker’s Cay Invitational just finished up. The event was held from May 24th-27th. Carl Allen and family did an amazing job of making everyone in the event feel like they were guests in their home on the island paradise. The food, Junkanoo festivities, and fireworks were enjoyed by all!
    As an 8 year old boy I enjoyed visiting Walker’s for the first time. It was my first experience in the Bahamas. This introduction was the beginning of a cartery in sport fishing. I was excited to be invited as an angler on the Old No. 7. We were quickly amazed by the blue marlin bite.
    The Lunático, two days before the tournament , put a rigger full of flags up, which included 5 blues, a white and 4 sails. This set the tempo for the rest of the event. Reminiscent of The North Drop, St. Thomas, the blue marlin bite amazed the fleet. The top boats started putting up big numbers.
    The Grand Slam took the first Daily with 1850 points, 3 blues and a sail. Hit and Run was right behind them with 1800, 3 blues.
    Old No. 7 won the second day Daily with a Grand Slam and an extra blue marlin. The Big Stick held the overall points going into Day 3. The Blue Goose fought a big blue until 9:00pm night but unfortunately lost the fish.
    As the third day progressed the fleet was overwhelmed with blue marlin bites. The Big Stick and Old No. 7 battled throughout the day for the top spot. As lines out approached and the fleet racking up big numbers the Old No. 7 finished the day with 4 blues and a sail to take the Daily. Meanwhile the Big Stick won the overall with 3 blues and 7 sails.
    The competitive level of the teams was truly inspirational. The tournament will go down in history as a total success. Thank you to everyone involved. I believe I speak for the fleet when I say, “I can’t wait for next year!”
