Why do we only offer double braid dock lines? They are stronger, last longer, and are easier to handle. You can order 3 strand nylon by placing a product request. The varies by preference but a typical setup would be:
16'-24' boats - 3/8" diameter and 4 x 20'
24'-40' boats - 1/2" diameter 4 x 20' and 4 x 30'
40'-50' boats - 5/8" diameter 4 x 25' and 4 x 35'
50'-65' boats - 3/4" diameter 4 x 30' and 4 x 40'.
This allows flexibility for spring lines and some long enough to cross your stern lines. We suggest 8 but recommend having at least 6, with one long back up rope of 50+'. Depending on size of your boat there are a some things to consider that may change this guide such as floating docks, slip size, traveling, wave action, storm surge, etc. Call, text or email anytime and we will be happy to help you with the right setup for your boat.
